Vice-chairman and joint managing director at First Global Stockbroking, Shankar Sharma, has a solid investment portfolio that he has built carefully over the past 30 years. He founded the stockbroking firm in 1989, when he was only 26, after a few initial years spent pursuing a career at Citibank. A couple of years later, during the bull market phase in 1991, Sharma accidentally purchased several seemingly worthless stocks like Karnataka Ball Bearing and Scindia Steamship. As things would turn out, the stock prices skyrocketed overnight, giving him the proceeds to make more intentional investments in companies whose shares were down due to operational or financial issues. As of February 2024, Shankar Sharma’s public shareholdings are valued at around Rs. 45 crores, with investment in only two sectors. Shankars investment in the software & services sector is more than 80% along with holdings in the transportation sector being around 17%. His key investments are in Brightcom Group, Droneacharya Aerial Innovations Limited and Brightcom Group Ltd. He has also invested in diversified consumer services through Priti International Ltd.
