The government of India holds a majority of the stake in the country’s public sector companies. These investments are held in the name of the President of India, and they make the presidential stock portfolio. As of February 2024, the President of India’s portfolio has a net worth exceeding Rs.25,00,000 crores and includes investments in around 70+ companies spread across different sectors in the Indian stock market. Dominant among these sectors is more than 50% stake in the banking & finance sector, with other investments in utilities, oil and gas, general industrials, metals & mining and coal sector. In terms of value, the biggest holdings in this institutional portfolio are stocks from KIOCL Ltd, Punjab & Sind Bank, Life Insurance Corporation of India.
